Going through my miscellaneous reels this evening and found this 200' generic Derann box containing "These Lights Must Not Go Out!" But look at what's written on the reverse:

 -

Someone has written "Re-record for Derek." Aww...

Derann often got their news titles mixed up. I have my copy in its original Derann box which is clearly marked "These Lights Must Not Go Out" and "including the World Premier of The Dam Busters".
Actually, it is called "This Light Must Not Go Out" which is much more of a relevant phrasing. (The projector arc.)

Kurt I have a couple of films here which say re recorded for Lee which go back a bit as does that film you have. Like watching all those little special interest flicks and Lights must not go out is very much a goody. Derann put more out than anyone else and we were lucky to have them available for collectors.

Perry's also had a good number available like 'movieman' A 1979 Ron Miller doc following the life and times of cinema manager James Nairn. A cracking 2 X 600ft doc struck from the original 16mm film master and well worth keeping an eye open for although not seen so often. It includes a nice Christmas sequence so popular here..

Looks like you might have what was once Derek's person copy. It's also interesting to see that Derann FS sticker on the back as I can't recall ever seeing that on anything!

Now I'm getting all emotional about Derann again. Gad, how I miss em!

Me too miss them. Currently reading through my old Movie Maker & Film Making, plus some of the earlier publications. Its amazing what was released over the years, not only from Derann but Powell Films, Walton, Mountain, and all the rest.

Derek really knew what the collectors wanted, most of the time. From features right down to the supporting programme.

On that link it looks like they made the same mistake with the title, and the price makes super 8 look cheap.

I still amaze people when I screen Derann's prints of "Toy Story" or "The Lion King" for them. They can't believe such picture quality and sound can come from such a tiny strip of film.

Kurt

I totally agree, although I don't have "Toy Story". I did buy a new print of "The Lion King" when it was first released and its a stunning color print. As you say, its really amazing what you can get out of a tiny 8mm strip of film. [Cool]

Graham. [Smile]
