I have been waiting a long time for this "1984" movie "the first film to use sole CGI effects" to appear and was not disappointed. The picture quality is excellent and it comes with a DTS 5:1 sound mix.....well done Universal, highly recommend it.

Sorry about the "pop up menu" at the bottom of the picture..I took those photos after I had finished watching it..

....Robert Preston was brilliant in the role as Centauri.

I totally agree Graham, I've had the American Blu-ray for a couple of years now (it's a Universal title, Region Free) and it get's played on a regular basis. I remember seeing this in the Cinema, and thoroughly enjoyed it, the SFX's have dated a bit, but that's what I like about it, it gives me the same kind of feeling when watching a Buster Crabbe "Flash Gordon", I just love it!

And on top of being a nice film, it's using Atari games (my favorite games company)

I was playing the game on my Atari 8-bit computer and loved it to bits.

The CGI isn't too good, though, but it was the first I saw at the cinema using that much CGI

What is amazing, was that at the time the movie was made during the 1980s, was the huge computer they used, I think there is a comment in the "making of" somewhere, that your present day take home lap-top, can do far more, than what they had to work with back then, The CGI effects was quite an achievement in its day.

Graham.
