Hi
Does any forum member remember using jam jars as an entrance fee at the cinema ?

Typically it was 2 jars per person

Can't be just me that remembers

There was a time when juniors to Saturday Morning Clubs used to take silver milk bottle tops but whether that included their admission I do not know.

Is that similar to "canned food drives" at our local cinemas? You bring in a few cans of food and you get in free.

No Osi
It happened over here due to poverty, families couldn't afford to give kids entrance fees, however, glass had an intrinsic value so jam jars (empty] had a small value,if you took it back to a store they would give you typically a half penny, cinemas use to accept them and cash them in themselves.

My dad who's coming up to 80 this year used to take jam jars to the local cinema.

Me I used to go behind the pub and get a few empty pop bottles to get the deposit in a shop.
