I got it too. Wasn't certain but seemed a little fishy to me. I thought if it was him he would've added a couple more details and maybe why he wanted us to review it. I don't know though.

Do you know why it appears suspicious?

Check out Barry Attwood's posting on the 8mm Forum. It seems that it may contains a virus.

Don't even attempt to open it! Just simply delete it everyone, you can very easily get in touch with Phil again in many other ways if you are curious about it's contents [Wink]

I've just received a :"wanring re virus -cine update" e-mail from Phil whos advise to delete the preceeding message as it could contain a virus

I have just spoken on the phone to Phil Sheard's wife, Denise, (Thursday is Phil's day off) and she says they have now been made aware of the situation.

She confirms that no emails have been sent from them.

Be aware, and do not open anything which might appear to have come from Classic Home Cinema.

The e-mail I got today says :"Yesterday I was informed by AOL (my internet provider) that my, and many other people's accounts had been hacked and used. My email address file and passwords are not stored on my computer and its AOL who were hacked ! If you got an email from me with a suspicious attachment, then best thing is to delete it. Then perhaps run a virus scan? ON THE CINE SCENE - we are very busy. On 16mm we now have the Pan Am film library here, and at the weekend will have a big S8 collection with all the Disney features among it. The next update with therefore go out in a week or so best wishes Phil" chc

;-) Michel I don't know how to translate "vive" to English (I presume everybody understood that "les nouvelles technologies" means "the new technologies".

Greetings

French to english Means

Bright new technologies

I would be surprised, Richard. In French, in the context of Michel's message, "vive" means something like "long live" (it was of course ironic) but I am not sure of the precise translation. When a king dies, you say (or should we say now said as Kings prefer to take a retirment and pass on to their son or daughter while they are still alive) : "Le roi est mort, vive le roi" ("the king is dead, ...the king), do you say in this context in English "long live" ?

"Vive" does indeed translate as "long live."

Spoke to Phil Sheard this morning, and he confirms that he did send the email to which Dominique refers. He has recently bought hundreds of Pan Am films on 16mm which he is still sorting and checking.
