So a couple of weeks ago we got two new couches for the screening area (living room). Today I was stuck home because of the snow storm. It was too bright out to watch films so I used the sound system (stereo) to listen to some audio tracks (music).

Much to my horror I found the new furniture is acoustically dead! As you lean back into the cushions they absorb sound like a sponge! (Thought I was going deaf!)

-now I have to tell my wife her new furniture has got to go!

(-Shame!) [Wink]

everything around you absorbs sound, a good concrete floor makes a big difference.

-as long as you find concrete that goes with my wife's drapes!

Yes, I guess the ultimate design room for a home cinema is black ceiling, black walls, a black painted concrete floor, and metal chairs! Try selling that to your wife! [Big Grin] [Big Grin] [Big Grin]

She's generally pretty tolerant of all this: for example we recently set up a mini-cine museum with a DeJur 8mm machine she found at a rummage sale and a Sound of Music poster she picked up at CineSea, but everyone has their limits!

It's shared space: everybody plays nice and we all stay happy.

Years ago I had this dream where I shoved aside the china cabinet and found this knobless door: basically painted shut. I pried it open and discovered this empty room: narrow yet deep and high ceilinged. Until the moment I woke up I finally had a room dedicated to showing films!

-being that the other side of that wall is really the side yard (and about 30 inches of snow right now...), I'd better be happy with what I actually have!
