I know this link has been posted in the past but I thought I would re-link it. It is a great little documentary around the history of the 8mm, 9.5 and 16mm home movie pioneers - "Walton Films". watch and enjoy. ( there are some sound issues but it is still worth a watch).

It is all about memories..wonderful.. stuff - it is where magic comes from!

When I was a kid..I could not get enough of those film catalogues.Mountain..Walton.Regent and Perry's..I had many of those LONG before I ever owned a projector...it was my imagination and expectation of owning those movies, 50 footers...200"...that fuelled my imagination as a 12 year old kid in 73..I loved poring over every word and picture. Mike Peckham, if you are reading I would very much love a scan of that Mountain catalogue - it would be very much appreciated. Mark [Smile]

I'm with you all the way on this one...

Being of your generation and a teen in the early 70's when horror was in vogue, what with Famous Monsters of Filmland, et la, and late night ITV screenings of Universal horror pictures (I was in the Southern TV region) and later Hammer films too.

Every Friday I'd stay up late with my grandparents and watch TV in awe as the Horror classics paraded in front of me. Thus my imagination was truely sparked and we had no other way of repeating those fantastic movie memories other than projecting 8mm (on my pocket money anyway!). So, I'd beg my parents, grandparents and relatives to buy me package films from the Kays retail catologue that every Autumn/Winter would list a load of 50 and 200 footers from Castle Films, etc, and hand cranked Muplet 8mm projectors!

Needless to say once I had a my little collection of films my mates would flock around to my place and we'd watch em over and over and over again, remembering every shot and subtitle (silent prints!)... Golden days indeed.

Of course I graduated to Magnetic Sound prints by the mid 70's and when I acquired a full length copy of Texas Chainsaw Massacre my parents were a little shocked about what we were screening in the dining room!!

My very first film was a Walton 50ft Laurel & Hardy 'Reluctant Legionnaires', excerpt from 'Flying Deuces', that was to go with my Christmas present of a Horipet (Cragstan) battery standard 8 projector which I still have, there was also a horse racing film that came with it.My Aunt also got me a couple of 50ft Vistapaks 'Motor Bike Mix-up' and an excerpt from 'Easy Street', the part with the 'junkie' in the cellar....My projector came from 'Kays' catalogue as did the Walton film...
