please add your name if you find it difficult to post pictures or you cant post them due to not knowing how and maybe doug and his mod can update and make it easier for some of us numskulls I know at least 30 memebers who cant post pics on here .you should be able to just take a picture and add it with your listing .I think if this was to happen I am sure forum memebrs would add pictures I alone would put on plenty

Well, I don't find it difficult but it is time consuming. I would post more pictures if it was a quicker process.

I think the present limit to five photos is a good idea. Why would you need more? I certainly don't have any problems with posting photos, and am surprised 30 plus members are having trouble doing so. Its really quite straight forward.

The thing is this is a small forum not a free platform to run a business on....if that was to happen that would spoil it.

Once you do a couple it becomes second nature, granted it could be easier, but it could be worse too.

I agree that it is just a little time consuming, but really not difficult. Main thing is to get the horizontal pixel count down to less than 550, using the scaling feature on Paint. I think if you did not have to go through the whole log in and password process for every individual picture that you wish to post, it would be a whole lot less tedious to post multiple pictures.

 - [/IMG] This is my first attempt at submitting an image. I'm not great at this sort of stuff, but I read the instructions a few times, and I think I've got it. My dog Sid says hello.

Receiving loud and clear at this end Paul! Well done.

I agree with the comments above from all of the gent's here.
It isn't anything to do with how difficult it is to post photos here, as after all, if you simply follow the clear instructions outlined here...it works!

It's just that it really is unnecessary work in this day and age to be doing all of this resizing to downgrade a resolution of an image.

This may well have proven necessary for our computer systems of a decade or so ago, given all of the limitations of download speeds and data limits back then, but surely none of this is applicable nowadays.

Andrew, you've hit the nail on the head.

I will go through the said cartoons soon now Stuart. Sorry for the delay.

Personally I am more than happy with this forum staying as it is - also please remember it is provided for us to use totally free of charge - surely if it becomes a dumping ground for literally hundreds of hi-res screenshots the cost of server storage space will increase?

There are many ways of uploading hi-res digital images to photo hosting websites that could then be linked here via a URL although there may be copyright issues involved if multiple screen shots of well known movies are uploaded.

The limit probably could and should be raised a little higher Kevin even if hundreds is excessive here

If a problem on a machine needs explaining in photos and diagrams, then 5 wouldn't always be sufficient to explain a full procedure clearly as I have found myself doing for people in the past.

Also surely Kevin, you'd prefer just to be able to place the actual image instantly here without going through the ritual of resizing each of them first?

Five pictures per post has always been sufficient for technical problems discussed and resolved on this forum for years Andrew and you can simply add five more to a reply post if you really need to add more.

Regarding members over posting hi-res pictures then yes I think that is exactly what will happen and ultimately slow down the site and increase server costs.

Fair enough then Kevin if you're happy to resize all of your images to retain the site server speed, though I have to say, I haven't noticed any sluggish behaviours from the other site where there are thousands of hi res images.

In fact, I haven't seen any compromise to the inner workings of the site from allowing these images on there in their high quantities.

You have the perfect solution then Andrew - keep posting your thousands of pictures on 'The Other Site' wherever that may be.

David,

I'm sorry about the difficulties you have uploading. I have confidence you will get the hang of it.

Hey David, I was just wondering if you tried posting a picture yet. I wanted to post a picture last year, but I was too intimidated by the instructions, so I gave up. The only issue I had yesterday was the cut and paste thing (or whatever it's called), but I was thrilled when I actually got it to work. As one numbskull to another, you inspired me to try it out, and I'm hopeless when it comes to computers. Thank you for giving me the incentive to try again and I wish you the best of luck (as I type this message with one finger).

No one should feel intimidated on here or anywhere come to that, with anything we struggle to comprehend at first in life.

It's through learning from others and then mastering, that we gain our experience in life.
We all learn through experience and good tuition, and here, just as in all walks of life, there are plenty of people willing to assist in tutoring or helping out in anyway they can, each step of the way.

We all learn from each others knowledge and experiences in life, that's what makes life interesting even in our twilight years.

Full disclosure:

I'm a degreed Electrical Engineer with a Masters in Business Administration and 35 years experience...

-yet I STILL had to send my first couple of pictures to Doug to post for me because I couldn't make it work!

There's no shame in finding it challenging at first, but it gets better!

The whole battle is getting them to the right pixel width and file size. Once you can do that it's a piece of cake!

I often open the original pictures in Microsoft Office 2010 (used to be called "Microsoft Picture Manager") If you click the tab "picture", there's a drop down with "compress" and "resize" at the bottom. You can use "compress" to reduce the file size and then "resize" to get your 550 pixels in with.

If you want to keep the originals as is, save with a new file name.

Very often "resize" in the upper left corner of paint does it all at once.

I have been using of late ACDsee Ultimate and that works really well with heaps of features.

You can even take the "red" out of any "screen shot" of film you are selling, and make it look like its a "Technicolor" print [Big Grin] ...just kidding [Big Grin] about the red that is [Wink]

I use Adobe Photoshop. Probably overkill...but that's my image editor of choice. Photoshop has a pretty hefty price tag...but you can get most of the same features in the FREE open source app GIMP. Makes resizing and optimizing photos a snap.
