Having spent some time retuning my Freeview digital recorder to receive Channel 45 for Film 4+1 (one hour ahead of Film 4) to no avail I checked with Film 4 website. It clearly stated channel 45.

However, with the assistance of Google I was able to find out that channel 45 can only be received on HD units although it is not transmitted in HD.

The same I had earlier found out applied to Talking Pictures TV.

Point of order Mr.Chairman. Film 4+1 is one hour BEHIND film 4. If it was ahead,it would have been handy for the lottery results! Alas.

The Channel 4 horse racing used to be on one of those -1 channels. They soon put a stop to it though. Shame, I was making a fortune!

That's okay,Maurice. You try being in my household when they move the clocks backwards or forwards!

On a more serious note, have you tried accessing Film 4 and/or Film 4+1 via the Freesat system? It does require a satellite as opposed to an aeriel but it is on there and it's free.

Melvin
I have access to both Freeview and Freesat, and yes, thanks to your question, I have just found Film 4+1 on Freesat, channel 301.

Using a cheap Maplin Freeview HD box that seems to retune itself I'd not noticed the move to the HD mux. I'll have to check if the compression artifacts are less now.
That box has even taken BBC 3 off the list for HD & SD automatically my older box used to go to the "Channel" but show blank, this one shows channel does not exiat when I put the number in.
