I've been looking at some prints on eBay that I'd really like to own, but while I can just about swallow £30 shipping from the USA for a 16mm feature, what's the deal with getting stung for $60 import charges? Add the shipping & import charges together and it almost doubles the price of the print - is there a workaround?

That must be the seller using Ebay global shipping feature automatically. This ebay will charge the import duty by system, which you cannot remove it. The only way is to ask seller take out that feature and make a manual shipping. Then ask seller to..... ok I should not continue....but you must have known it [Razz]

Cheers,

If you do find a seller who will just ship a film to you it is quite possible that you will have to pay V.A.T. when it arrives in the U.K. at the current rate of 20%.
This is levied on the purchase price and the cost of carriage, plus a further amount to the Post Office as a handling fee.
These days it is just not worth buying a film from the U.S.

The sellers you really want to find ultimately, are those you have an understanding with, who will do you the odd favour in so much as how they declare the goods description and its value, then anything is possible from anywhere!

You just need trust between buyer and seller.
With it, the world's your oyster, without it...Well welcome to the Rat Race! [Wink]

A little bit of fair play in life goes a long long way, both as buyer as well as seller I've found!
