I see that Grahame's site is closed due to illness. Let us hope that it is nothing too serious. As we know he has suffered quite badly in recent times and I wish him a speedy recovery, as I'm sure do all other members.

Indeed Terry.

Thanks for the information.

I hope everything will be ok. It must have been sad for him to miss the Harpenden meeting.

Just been speaking to the editor of 9.5 magazine and he tells me that Grahame has back trouble possibly caused by lifting items of heavy equipment in his garage.
As we get older (me included) the lifting of heavy projectors does become a problem and can easily cause an injury.

Thanks for the update Maurice and we wish him well for a speedy recovery.

Take care guys and if necessary, just get a close young fit relative to do all of your lifting tasks for you.
i am sure everyone has someone who would be willing to assist you all, even a friendly Neighbour perhaps? [Wink]

Just heard that Grahame's source of pain is a kidney stone.
It is hoped that it may pass naturally, however, it might be necessary for Grahame to have an operation.

We wish him well Maurice. [Frown]

That's sad news about Grahame.
He is such a nice man and always finds time for a conversation
with me over the phone with any enquiry regarding 9.5mm.
I wish him a speedy recovery.

As someone also suffering with a kidney stone Grahame has my deepest sympathy.I'm currently writing this in hospital - I've never known so much pain and ongoing discomfort. Finally having mine blasted on the 10th, I hope Grahame's procedure isn't far behind.

Good luck with it Stuart, and of course well wishes to Graham here again.

Latest update on 30 October from Grahame's web-page.

"Infected colon/kidney & kidney stone. Now out of hospital but recuperating - waiting for another op to remove the stone and stent! Not good getting old!"

Never heard of "stent" but Google revealed:- "A small mesh tube."

Posted by Andrew Woodcock (Member # 3260) on November 04, 2016, 06:56 AM:

Lucky you Maurice!

Stent is a word we sadly became very aware of in our household.
Not good i'm afraid! [Frown]

Appreciate the update though thanks Maurice. [Wink]

STENT is a word I know all to well from experience.
I have 2 in each of my "good" heart arteries to keep the blood flowing.
The 3rd artery is totally blocked and shrivelled.

Update from Grahame's site as at 16 November 2016:-
"Sorry little communications. No sales! But I am much better now!"

Great news Maurice thanks! 😊

Maurice I saw this too.
I do hope he gets well and is back in action soo.
This hobby needs people like Grahame more than ever.

As at 2nd December 2016 Grahame reports:-
"I am feeling OK now! Waiting for another op. I'm mostly home now - getting back to normal (sorry if things are a bit slow!). Have put my sales lists up again today."
This is good news.

I have spoken to Grahame, he is in great spirits and pleased that he has now been able to bring his sale items back on-line.
He has what he describes as a "by-pass" at the moment, this is until the large stone has been removed, probably in January, by a minor operation.

Posted by Dominique De Bast (Member # 3798) on December 03, 2016, 05:05 AM:

Hopefully, everything goes well.

Posted by Stuart Reid (Member # 1460) on December 03, 2016, 05:14 AM:

Guess the bypass is the same that I had, a tube between kidney and bladder so you can pass urine as the stone blocks the usual tube. Bloody uncomfortable, but not as bad as the stone itself.

Great news to read he is now slowly getting well !

An update from Grahame's web-site dated 31 March 2017:-

"After infected colon/kidney & kidney stone - hospital - now out - pre-assessment; kidney infection - await another op. to remove stent & laser disperse large 6mm kidney stone.
X-rayed on 15th, now fit for operation!
Progress!
Not good getting old!
At home, but slow - sorry!"

Grahame also says that he will not be available until late April.

A further update from Grahame's web-site dated 21 August 2017 :-

"I have a small/minor vocal chord growth - it is being sorted out with radiotherapy for the next four weeks."

Posted by Dominique De Bast (Member # 3798) on August 27, 2017, 06:43 AM:

Thanks for the update, Maurice.

Grahame says almost a month into recovery after radiotherapy on vocal chord his voice is almost coming back.
He's told to rest it until the specialist has a good look!
In the meantime, it is really just emails please.

An update from Grahame Newnham.
He went into hospital again on 20 November 2018 with probably a long term recovery.
He asks for no contact, emails, orders or phone calls.
I am sure we all wish him well for the future.

I saw the update because it's the only site where I had found a 9.5mm accessory that I needed. I wish him all the best, he is a great person, polite and helpful.

Yes a great pity. He's really been in the wars lately and now has to endure another operation. So very knowledgable and probably the best source of 9.5 help, spares and information, for us hobbyists/ collectors.
I'll certainly be 'throwing one up' for his full recovery.

Grahame's website says that he was having a major vocal chord cancer operation.
His recovery will be a long job, probably months.

Grahame is not updating his site anymore. I hope he will be well.

Grahame is at present in a nursing home but has his computer with him so here's what he has just sent me.

"I had thought the cancer (vocal chord) was clear a year ago after radiography treatment, in fact, last year I was back to normal and going out regularly, including five holidays.

Then last Summer it was back. More radiography treatment was not possible, so a very tricky operation. Now my swallowing isn't quite right, so I am "Nil By Mouth" and have a liquid feed via pipe into my stomach! However, I am mobile, but a bit wobbly.

By chance this lovely Nursing Home is a short walk from my house. I have been back once but it is too much of a walk on my own at present.

By all means mention my problems on the Forum."

Grahame is able to do some limited updates on his Web-Site, however there is a lot waiting at home to be added some time.

Grahame would welcome communications from members, his email is presto@pathefilm.uk
