Now I am in a French world, and everything here is in French obviously.

I have to struggle in finding my hobbies especially when searching in the on line add (annonce) since I am not really sure how they are writen in French. I know I can use google translator, but the result is not necessarily the common used words for that corresponding hobbies. So can somebody with French culture help me in this regard. The words I wanted to know are:

1. 8mm Projector
2. super 8mm films
3. Vinyl or LP
4. Turntable
5. Reel to reel (open reel deck...not the tape)
6. Model trains (Railway model)
7. HO scale
8. Vintage audio system

As in English, for one item it can be described in many words (Vinyl, LP, records, 33 RPM are the same), so you can suggest me with more possible terms for one item.

thanks

Hello. You will surely learn this beautiful language soon :-)
I would suggest :

1.projecteur super 8 *
2.films super 8 (pronounce huit of course)
3.disques vinyles/33 tours (45 tours for the singles records)
4.tourne-disques/pick up
5.magnétophone à bandes
6.modèles réduits de trains
7.maquette de trains
8.chaîne stéréo
* If you mean standard/regular 8, the equivalent in French is double 8

Dom,...thanks.

The only online add here is www.annonces.nc could you please open it.

It has quite weird search engine if we use more than 2 words, eg 33 tours (for vinyls). The result will be everything with "33" + everything with "tours" which is obviously hundreds.

I don't know how I can limit the result if I used multiple words as you suggest.

BTW, it seems "platine" is also a common word for "turntable", is that right?

Winbert, the trouble is the same with another famous site "Le bon coin". It is not possible to limit the searches to what you're really looking for. The word "platine" is indeed alos used but I think (I'm not specialist in these appartus) it refers more to professionnel machines (used by DJ in disoctheques for example). Someone may correct that.
Here you have an example of 33 tours http://www.annonces.nc/vinyls_33_tours-!1686191 By the way, it seems that in your part of the world they spell "vinyl" like in English. It is possible that they use some English terms, so you may try also words like LP.

8) Chaîne Hifi or Ancienne Chaîne Hifi
