That was always my impression (and many members here) that sending money as paypal gift is free.

But today, I make two payments to the same people, one as a gift and another one as a purchase.

The one as a gift has 1,5% fee.

The one as a purchase is 0% fee.

I am using my paypal balance to fund both payments. And in my screen says that for both transactions, the recipient (seller) will receive the same amount (full amount) as I was billed.

So do you know this? Or this is new?

Cheers,

For purchase, the seller pays the fees. For gift, the sender pays the fee.

I send money to my mom (Friends and Family) every month to help pay her rent. If your PayPal account is linked to a bank account (not a credit card) there is no fee for either sender or recipient.

Over here transactions sent as a gift are only free if it is to another UK resident. After that, you pay commission.

Is it possible that fees vary depending on the curency (or the country you live in?) ? With my Paypal account, there is a difference if the payment is made in euros (then it's free) or in British pounds (then there is a fee if you pay by credit card).

That's the same as us here Dom, except in reverse. (As said above).

i have to say the fees of both ebay and paypal are seriously becoming a con. if the fees go up any more i will have to rethink how i use it.

This is actually better for us as UK users of Paypal than it used to be!

In the "Good Ole Days", Paypal used to charge even like for like transitions with a commission fee, even within the same country, for items paid for as a "gift to Family & Friends"!
