I finally have a possible opportunity to construct a home cinema complete with booth. However, because of sloping roof ceilings I would end up with a 10ft throw. Is it worth it? What would be the chances of getting a reasonably big picture at this throw? I plan to show 16mm and S8.
I'm just interested in your thoughts, should I decide to go ahead.

It hardly seems worth it for only a throw of ten feet.
The standard 16mm projector lens of 2" (50mm) will only give a picture 22 inches wide.
A 1.5" lens will give 29".
A 1" lens will give 44".
Perhaps the one inch lens would give an acceptable picture for you which of course would double when showing 'scope.

As a trial I would still set the 16mm up and run a bit of film onto a temp screen, sit down and see what you think using different lenses.. as will it work. The thing is bigger is not always better. If you imagine a future small screen, with masking, curtains and lights, what will that image appear like prespective wise to how you view it.

Thanks, fellas. It's just something I'm thinking about. I'm inclined to agree with Graham. Size may not be what it's all about.

I project super 8 onto a screen about 44 inches from around 10 feet, and its fine, nice big picture when you are that close to screen.
Michael, get a 1 inch lens and go ahead.
