This may have been covered before, but I'm going to show my total ignorance now, so prepare to slag me off, probably justifiably;
In topics such as 'What films did you show last night?', why go straight to the original page, which could be several years old, and not the latest contribution?

I believe it is a quick of the forum software. The only way to go to the last page is to go to the sub forum and select that in the listing, not to try to access it from the latest thread update on the main page.

I've fallen foul of this more than once and I'm sure many others have so don't think people will slag you off.

If you click on the wee arrow next to the Topic name it'll take you to the last comment, regardless of how many pages that topic has.

I tend to automatically got for the subject rather than the update arrow.
Perhaps too logical for my addled old brain?

On the "Main Menu" it is better to click on the selected "forum title" than the "last post" subject.
In that way you would not only see the "last post" subject at the top of the page, but if it has several pages attached to it one could click on the highest page to view the last few contributions to the subject, or, as Stuart pointed out, click on the blue arrow for THEE latest comment.
By selecting the Forum Title, you would also notice all the other more recent subject titles that have had recent comments made on them that you may have missed since the last time you were on the forum. The "last post" subject can change very quickly and it would be a shame to miss out on the other recent topics.
