I am restoring a Pathe Baby for a friend and got to the point where I would like to see if a film will run through. With gate closed, motor running and no film loaded, all works fine, but with film loaded, the drive pulley skids on the belt and film is tight to drag through the gate.
Any help here will be welcome.
The glass is missing from the lower canister. Can anyone give me the dimensions of the glass, and what holds it in place ?
I was thinking of making a perspex replacement as the glass is very vulnerable.
Mike.

Mike my Pathe Baby is not motorized...but hopefully it is similar in construction. The glass over the chamber is 4in. or 10.16cm. A metal ring fits on the outside of the glass. Two tabs on the ring fit into slots and then the ring is turned to secure the glass in place.

For the other issue the takeup hub might need a new rubber tire. If the hub does not rotate smoothly you can dissemble and lubricate it.

Hi Janice,
Many thanks for posting the photo.
Is it possible that you could post a photo of the inside of the ring. Can I take it that the right hand jockey wheel is fixed to the ring. I may well have to make a new ring. Is it nickel plated ?
I found the two long slots that the ring fits in and also noticed a half round cut out on right hand top position on the body. Not sure what that is for .
Sorry for all the questions, but somewhat in the dark with these small details.
Mike.

Mike ... the ring does not attach to anything. You just insert the glass then insert one of the ring tabs into the slot at the bottom on the circle opening...then insert the other ring tab into the rounded slot opening at the top. slightly turn the ring to hold it in place against the glass.

I didn't want to remove the ring on my working Baby...so here are a couple pics from my non-working projector (it's missing the glass also) I use for display. It doesn't have a rubber tire on the hub...but everything else is correct.

Many thanks Janice, all is becoming a bit clearer. So we have three parts to find, the glass, the steel rim and the inner steel circle with the jockey wheel fixed to it.
The left hand jockey wheel is here, but looks a bit deformed, so maybe some work needed there.
The glass is not a problem, as I can cut a replacement in perspex/plexiglass which will not be prone to breakage.
I would like to post pictures, but not sure how to do this. I do have a Flickr account, so maybe that might work ?
Mike
