    Inspired by a sister topic on the Super-8 side of the forum, I thought it would be interesting to delve into some of the more unique 16mm projector designs out there...

    I offer up for consideration the Victor Kalart Model 70-15X:

    This is a very heavy (tube-based amp) projector that while hardly state of the art, is a good solid performer, decades after its introduction.

    Its most interesting feature is a design which places the feed reel at the rear of the projector, and the take-up reel at the front. Of course, it's a manual thread projector, which offers some unique loading challenges.

    However, once the program is underway, it's extremely gentle on film. A bad splice or perf will instantly cause the Victor to cease operation, preventing any subsequent damage.
