Much beloved by we Super 8 film collectors Star Wars has always held a special place for us old Skool collectors loving the nostalgia and lets face it genius of Mr Lucas. I guess my Super 8 SW A NEW HOPE has been projected 80+ times over the years both here and shows outside which has been great fun. Some years ago I did project it somewhere in the city at request to a group of fans wanting to see the original as well which was memorable.
Well here we are in the 21st century and looking back at the old 8mm Forum God bless it and all those thousands of posts I see way back I made a prediction one day we would see a good disc release of the trilogy in original un mutilated format with no Lucas trickery. True to my Criswell Predicts moments (remember them) we have now available A NEW HOPE and RETURN OF THE JEDI on Blu-Ray and boy are they glorious to see once again.
A NEW HOPE comes from a 35mm Technicolor print, it has been restored with love by a group of fans and from a cultural history stand point. As of 16th May 2018 work had been completed closely followed by a DNR version in September. The 35mm print has been cleaned, scanned at 4K and rendered at 4K with just 3% of the film taken from LPP and Eastman to complete the original 1977 version as we remember it, needless to say it is wonderful to see A New Hope looking so great along with the sound of course.
RETURN OF THE JEDI
Similar to above this is another great job done for love of the original version/edit looking and sounding excellent.
So I can hear voices asking what about Empire? They are working on that at the moment and I guess we will have it in 2021.
To read more about the excellent work this group of highly skilled fans are doing have a read of the web site, but I have to say the films are really quite amazing to see at this quality and with a choice of watching with the film grain or with DNR.
Well done to all involved and if you can donate to the work they will certainly welcome it.
