Hi!
Sounds like you have made a bargain. Is there sound on the audiotape (sepmag soundtrack for one of the railroad films)? Or is it a „fresh“ one?
BTW: On your photos, the stickers with the reduced prices (1 or 3$) don’t look like new. (At least on my phone.) They might have been put their in the 1980s or 1990s when a photoshop closed its S8-department.

Everybody Wins!
.
So, late last week I won an eBay auction for a small lot of Super-8 films. The seller showed the labels on the boxes. Among them, there were five Sunday River Productions railroad films. I've been collecting these since I was in my teens and they'd be a guilty pleasure if I felt at all guilty about it. Two titles I had, but two were titles I didn't and one was a sound print of a film I have as a silent, but never even knew was available with sound,
This was "buy it now" for about $25, so it seemed a sensible gamble to make, and gambling it really is! When We buy films at auction like this, we depend on both the information the seller provides and their honestly. In this particular case, the seller had no word to give: all he said was the boxes looked in good condition. He had no means to look at the films, so he had no promises to keep.
So the days passed until they showed up. Had they baked for 30 years in some attic, were they full of spider eggs (-and spiders?). Were they a quarter mile of tramlines and torn sprocket holes?
The 25 bucks wouldn't ruin me and maybe I could even get a refund, but if nothing else I wanted those films and this could be my only chance to ever have them!
-only time would tell!
This is where film collecting starts to have common ground with betting on horses and casino gambling: you lay your money down and hope the payoff is great! When we've done this long enough, we win and few and lose a few.
Now, you'll notice that each of 'em has a "$1" or "$3" sticker on it, and the total was about $12. My feeling is the seller found these at some thrift shop and decided to turn them around on eBay. The seller doubled his money: he certainly "won".
The fact of the matter is the films are in really great shape, and since I would gladly have paid that $25 for any of the three I was really after: I "won" too! (If nothing else, The Royal Hudson with sound puts on quite a show!)
BTW: That "film" over on the left was never meant for a projector, but is a 5 inch reel of audiotape. (Widest sound-stripe I've ever seen!). We'll chalk that up to buying "film" from people outside the fraternity!

Well today is the 28th July 2023, the 50th Anniversary since I took this photo, of arriving here in New Zealand on the morning of the 28th July 1973 on the SS Australis Southbound from Southampton. "I came under the assisted passage scheme" the immigration were soon to come on board and tell me we are sending you to Christchurch, where is that I asked? South Island and have lived here ever since.

Brilliant photos Steve, I forgot to add yesterdays location I had never been to Glentunnel before, it would be a nice place to live. Stopping at the Darfield bakery was not in the grand plan, but have since read that its a great stop for a quick bite. So folks if you come out here for a holiday Darfield and Glentunnel are worth a visit. Incidentally the above coaches don't get paid, usually have there own children on the team that they coach, without the parents help you wouldn't have any junior rugby. I was telling one parent yesterday, how my better half Yvonne years ago was ordered of the field when Steven played, telling the ref he needed glasses looking at Yvonne you would never think she was like that, but most New Zealanders are a bit loopy about the game.

Well folks if you are getting tired of your heat Glentunnel here in the South Island. With a temp today of only 3 Degrees Centigrade and wind gusts coming down from the snow covered nearby mountains its was chilly today. Although Connor rugby team is officially finished for this winter, they did manage to get couple more games. Glentunnel is about an hours drive from the city, its a really nice little township. Afterwards they put on a nice feed for the kids, not the adults, although hot soup would have been great . Afterwards on our way home we stopped at a Cafe at a place called Darfield, very nice. One of Connor team mates and parents were already there getting a feed. The small home made mince pie they were eating looked great so we had one as well. All up, the weather just held up for the game. The nearby pass to Arthurs from Glentunnel is now closed due to snow.
One thing that was nice today, was the kids got together at the end of the game, and in the middle of the paddock sang happy birthday to there coach, so that was our out and about day, it was a good full day, really enjoyed it. I did ask his coach and assistant coach if there was a chance we could take a photo under the posts afterwards, he was more than happy, so myself and others took advantage of it. I took a couple below.

We spent the weekend in Pittsburgh to celebrate a friend's wedding. Our hotel was right across the Allegheny River from PNC Park, home of the Pittsburgh Pirates baseball team.
Friday night after it got dark, I got as close to the riverbank as I could and shot this picture: The Pirates have been joined by the San Francisco Giants for an evening game.
I'd like to dedicate this "Your Day in Pictures" to our favorite Giants Fan, Janice Glesser: doubly so since her team BEAT the Pirates 6-4!

While i'm enjoying the summer warmth and everything that it brings, my mind is already starting to think about Halloween season. To satisfy, I drew myself a fake "Vintage" Halloween Circular Ad.

Looks great, Doug!
When I was a little kid I spent many happy days camping with my family in that part of New York State.

Last night I decided to dig out my old stereo camera rig which hasn't seen the light of day for over ten years, and to my surprise it jump back in to life.
This morning I drove up to the town of Boulogne on the north coast of France and visted Nausicaá the largest aquarium in Europe.
As I found out photographing fish underwater, in stereo is not as easy as it may sound. The flaming things keep moving around. I thought at one point the cameras autofocus was going to have a nervous breakdown trying to keep up.
I have tried to scale the stereo pairs so they can be viewed without to much eye strain.

Evening Cruise
Last night we took a sunset cruise off our South Shore:
-a couple of hours cruising around Great South Bay and almost, but not quite out into the Atlantic: buffet dinner, open bar, snacks and music among friends.
-some really nice scenery too!
