I've have a Sankyo 1000 and a 2000H that both have had a problem with jittering/jumping frames that has had me stumped for a long time. For some reason it was usually worse running R8 film, but neither gauge was really acceptable.
My trouble-shooting steps:
1. The belt is good.
2. The shutter rotates smoothly.
3. The claw moves smoothly ... protrudes and pulls down film correctly.
4. Examined lower loop former. Rotate rubber ring, added addition sponge material...and finally replaced the lower loop former with another from a working projector...and still no improvement.
I then remembered Frank Arnstein writing in this thread http://8mmforum.film-tech.com/cgi-bin/ubb/ultimatebb.cgi?ubb=get_topic;f=1;t=006641 "film will jitter whenever there is a sudden change of tension in the film from the takeup reel." So I took off the back and looked at the takeup reel assembly.
In the case of the Sankyo 2000H... there is a screw controling the spindle tension. I loosened the screw which relieved some tension. I then ran some test film...and no jitters. The film now ran smooth and stable ![[Smile]](smile.gif)
The Sankyo 1000 didn't have a screw...but rather the takeup spindle rod rested on a thin copper brace. I bent the brace down so the rod was no longer touching the brace. I ran the test film and as with the other machine....no jitters.
So if you are having a similar issue this is another area you should check as a possible solution.
