The price for a Beaulieu continues to increase.
Here's a stereo for Buy It Now at €2499. The seller, Stephan Binder of Vienna, is a person from whom I have bought Super 8 projectors over the years.

Not the later Studio model though Maurice. So would be considered expensive i think.

A lot newer, LED Meters,Digital Counter, Better Spindles, All later internal mods like claimed better and steadier shutter movement better steadier image on screen claimed etc.
Ignacio's report sums it all up best.

This machine however isn't as old as it would seem. 1st thing is that it has the later knobs like the Studio model. Than it also has the Digital LCD counter as opposed to the older mechanical model. And last but not least it has the newer improved pull down claw. Some of the newer models have the Gold colored aluminum one that is improved over the older model which is black in color. This looks to be a transition model before the Studio model in some ways but surpasses the Studio model in others ie: the newer pull down claw. I asked Bjorn the Beaulieu specialist once if there was a big difference between the Studio model and the standard Beaulieu Stereo and he told me that the differences were only cosmetic but Ignacio from Spain who has had both said the newer models had resdesigned heads that were narrower which resulted in less possible scratching to the film? So who knows for sure.

I must admit Alan, i tend to side more with Bjorns theory. I have one of the later heads as a spare and i can see absolutely no difference whatsoever between that one and the originals fitted.
Equally there are no lines placed on the side of the films frames from using my two original heads??

The digital LCD counter is faulty on this one, I doubt you would get a replacement.....

Shame that, otherwise it appears a beauty once again.

For what it actually does or gets used for nowadays, I suppose a manual counter could always be fitted again.

Personally, I never even look at mine.
I have no use for a frame counter on anything other than an editor.

I can't imagine it can be so difficult to source an alternative LED display for this application.

Correct, but try fitting it that tiny space very shallow, a stereo board plus the led's, driver board would need to been elsewhere connected remotely. I'd like to see just that bit to see what chip has been used .

On mine there is nothing else near the counter. That goes for either of them????

It does need to be a small LED display though admittedly to fit into the tiny slot provided.

I have to say, if I was currently in the market for another Beaulieu, which I'm not, I don't think a missing or non functioning counter would put me off buying one, personally.

As I say, I never ever even glance at any of mine, not even the digital ones on the Bauer s.

They provide me with no functional purpose whatsoever, not even when recording on the Bauers.

A machine as good as these, would benefit far more by fitting a frequency meter accurate to at least 1/100th of a cycle rather than a frame counter.
In lock down mode then with a highly accurate frequency meter, it would be really easy to set up my video software to sync the soundtrack to a known locked frame rate without having to find the exact frame rate on each occasion.

Normally they run around $1299-and don't go much higher unless they are specialty models like the HTI or the 708 COM models. But over $2000 for this model which only has updated LED meters, LCD, and reel clips. Just too overpriced for me unless the seller backs it with a warranty.

and yes.. I was outbid! I wasn't prepared to pay for HTI like prices for a halogen. But this one was the one that "got away" sadly. [Frown]

And most likely where the sellers of the current machines got their pricing. But I am sure that if they remain unsold the prices will keep going down to where they should be for these.

But that one has a changed main control knob, some cosmetic issues, and it also looks like the green plastic strip that covers the light over the main knob is coming down in one picture.

Halogen is fine by me, so should the time ever arrive, I'd love one like that first example there of the Studio model.

It has to be said though, that so far almost 5 years in, I've been delighted by what I already have from these machines.
They have been like a breath of fresh air to me compared to my distant past!
