Is this because it's not a very good cut down David?

Not seen it myself and wondering whether to look out for a copy.

John it is a very good cutdown indeed and well worth hunting
down.

Its just that I have a bad habit of not watching some of my
films on a regular basis.

I forgot I even had this one. [Wink] [Wink] [Wink]

That's happened more often than not in my collection too, Dave ...

More often it's me looking at something and saying, "Hey, I thought I sold that years ago." [Smile]

I would love to see some screenshots from this film. I`ve watched a few minutes of a friends copy but I was not impressed with this Derann release. Maybe there are better copies out there.

I picked up part 2 of the earlier split 2x400ft release from Derann (on SP0 from Phil on Saturday, out of the £8 each 4 for £25 box. A bit orange but the part after the escape when they are on the run and captured. Not bad for the price.

There was an Italian full feature of this, not scope, flat, but I would have no idea as to whether the color has held up or even the overall quality of the print, (neg source ect.)

Can somebody confirm, please, if the 600' is a different edit to the 2x 400'?

(I did pass my maths exam and realize that 2x 400 = 800, not 600, but we are all aware of how much film often isn't found on a 400' spool).

Melvin as far as i am aware the 600' is the same edit as the
2 x 400' edition.

The 600' is on thinner polyester stock.

This was one of the first abridged super releases in the UK that featured mixing of 16mm full coat soundtracks for a super 8 release.

In other words, Derann released, together with a skillful editor, not only a 2 x 400ft version which was nicely edited picture wise, but also featured a cross fading and mixed soundtrack which, especially given the high profile musical score, gave a much smoother result.

Watch it again and listen to the soundtrack, then compare it to the DVD...

Beautiful soundtrack editing job back in the day...

Derann also printed 600' Scope editions of THE GREAT ESCAPE and
ITS A MAD MAD MAD MAD WORLD which were also first released
as 2 x 400' editions.

David - I assume the same rule applies to these too. Because the 600' is polyester, the edit is the same?

The original Derann releases of these 2 x 400ft versions were available in the late 1970's and early 1980's.

Then video killed off super 8.

Of course, Derann persevered successfully with super 8 throughout the 80's and 90's and the 600ft versions were simply the original 2 x 400ft negatives joined together and re-printed (the originals would normally be about 360ft per spool) and, as has been pointed out, with thinner polyester stock, they made a tidy 600ft release.
