Thought I'd present a couple of features from India where film plays a part. Both are available on Netflix Instant Watch. Fine films these.

The first few pics are from Harishachandrachi Factory, a feature about India's first feature. Pics show India's first filmmaker, Dadasaheb Phalke, walking into his first screening, learning film-making in England and teaching film-making to his family in India. Harishachandrachi Factory was India's entry for Best Foreign Film to the Oscars in 2010. In some ways, this feature planted the seed of collecting in me.

The following pics are from Road, Movie. We just watched it. Reminded me of Sergie Dvortsevoy's Tulpan in its exploitation of arid geography. I believe Road, Movie was well received at several international film festivals.

A character in the film says the projector is an "Italian Victoria". The juxtaposition of the rewind and the Mahatma is humor, of course. The scope screen ..... I thought it is magnificent!

Akshay,

In Indonesia we also have those kind of cinema that visit one village to another village. They are looking for a soccer field to erect a cinema for 2 or 3 nights. We call it (an English free translation) as 'Cinema at-large'.

As an Indonesian, I am proud that finally Indonesian movie can enter global market where this week an Indonesian movie 'The Raid: Redemption' was released globally, include in Canada.

Here is the imdb for that title: http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1899353/

We are of course far left behind compared to India in this regard.

cheers

I know of that title, Winbert. Are you going to watch it? I hear it's too violent, but that's a discussion raging on another thread.

Akshay whats with the ? I hear it's too violent? India has there share of violence like I saw a film about Alexander the Great fighting with India with guys being crushed by elephants.

Laksmi, I get your point about elephants crushing Indian soldiers. I didn't mean to use violence to build a case against The Raid: Redemption. In fact, I haven't seen the feature, so how can I be against it already!
