Hi all, I have tried 2 different lamps on the moviedeck 455, but to no avail. One was an ELB and the other an ENZ 50 W 30 V. None worked. I noticed that there is no light switch on the projector. Would there be an internal switch that I am missing, or is it simply supposed to turn on when I engage the threading knob? Any help is welcome.

Thanks in advance.

The lamp is lit on the Moviedeck whenever the motor is operating. This puts quite a dsplay on screen if you allow the machine to rewind back through the projection path!

It sounds like you have some kind of power supply problem: hopefully something simple like a dirty contact or a loose connection.

BTW: Are you confident in those lamps?

What do you mean, what's wrong with them?

Hopefully nothing, it's just a shame to "fix" a projector when the real problem was a couple of blown lamps.

(It's a little like discovering you were just out of gas after you've taken the engine out of the car!)

Did you buy the lamps new? Did they come with the machine?

-It just pays to eliminate the easy stuff first.

Yes, both lamps are brand new. That is why I'm so surprised they don't work, because the projector is in excellent condition.

OK,

The odds of two new lamps being duds are pretty small.

Your basic choices are too much lamp voltage (are the filaments of the lamps intact after you tried them in the machine?) or little/none. I'm guessing you will find there is too little.

Note: Try not to touch the lamp's envelope. If you do, swab it with alchol before you light it again.

If you are handy with a voltmeter this is the time to crack 'er open and poke around to see if/where the volts stop.

If you aren't, this is the time to figure out who of your friends is handy with a voltmeter (-anybody who knows every Star Trek episode by title and production date is a good candidate...) and get their help.

-I once caught Spock saying something like:

"...an amplification of one to the 40th power."

I did the math in my head:

"One times one one times one..."

It seems to me Spock musta flunked his algebra Regents!

Haha, there's so much comedy in Star Trek, you just wonder if it was voluntary!

Thing is in William Shatner's new show he's playing a Doctor...

If Deforest Kelley was still here would he play the Captain?
