Hi all knowledgeable folk out there.
Splicing cement is not available in my part of the world and posting liquids is a problem. I think that it consists of acetate or acetone with a little bit of old film dissolved in it. The question is, which one, how much old film and are there any other secret ingredients?

Kodak Professional film cement contains:
1,4-dioxane (123-91-1), Dichloromethane (75-09-2), Acetone (67-64-1), Methanol (67-56-1), Cellulose nitrate (9004-70-0)

That's what it says on the side of the can anyway. I did read somewhere on the internet that you can make it by dissolving film in Acetone but it didn't say how much film or how much acetone.

I purchased a pint can from B & H Photo in the US and now have enough to last the rest of my life. I can see where they may have problems shipping overseas but there may be exemptions for small quantities. I see it for sale in a small 1/2 ounce bottle on ebay all the time. Just make sure it's clear and has not turned yellow.

film cement is the same for all formats. Hence these two labs should have some - at least for their own purposes:

You should also be able to buy cement from one of the companies listed on Kodak's webpage:

You might also ask your local cinema (even though they're most likely using tape instead of cement to repair broken films).

Hi and thank you for your replies.
I will contact our local Kodak supplier in Durban first before looking further afield.
It also looks as if a supplier on ebay posts to South Africa from the U.S.A. which will be my last resort.
I will let you know how my search turns out. Thanks once again.
