So do i need to learn how to do this??? Is there better splicers than others??? Is there a course i can go on or is it something easy to learn??? seems i have more to learn.Thanks

I think the CIR tape splicers are about the best to get as this type of splicer are widely used in professional use,but these are highly sought after and can command high prices in the second hand market.

Using scissors and Scotch tape is a nice alternative for beginners, I do this as I don't have a splicer, and it works just fine

scissors and scotch tape!! love it who needs expensive splicers.However i have heard CIR tape splicers are the best around.I have just been offered a cement splicer for free didnt know was building work involved Am i able to take say 2 x 800ft reels of film and cut it down to say 2 x 600ft reels and a 400ft? or is that a no no?

You can cut down your films any way you want. Just add leader to the beginning and end of each reel to save damage to the film. Also, save any original boxes and leader should you decide to re-edit them back together in the future.
