Just picked up this Eumig S940 in stunning condition. The sound is outstanding and picture is crystal clear. I've spent the evening running a heap of films though it.

I have the S938 and love it.
Wish it wasn't such an ordeal to access the gate for cleanings though.

I haven't tried cleaning it yet but it certainly looks more fiddly compared to my ST1200.
I find the picture brightness almost on par with the ST1200. However, the sound is far superior.

Real nice... waiting for my S938 to arrive, I've read nothing but good things about it... although it's not processor-controlled like that beauty S940, I have high hopes I'll be able to use it for dubbing/re-recording. Having worked as a video editor, a sound mixer and a DJ, I shall be able to nudge the sound into sync on the fly, should there be any speed variations. I've also been able to find a seller for the f1.0/18-28 and f1.2/12.5-30 Suprogon lenses, and to top it all I got hold of a Rectimascope 48/2x scope lens. Expense for the whole package: about 100$. If everything works fine, it'll be a nice Christmas :-)

This is in almost mint condition. It's just missing 1 slider on the recording panel which I can live with. It cost $100 but unfortunately almost that again in mailing costs(from Western Australia). Interestingly, the date of purchase is written underneath - 5/4/84.

Hi Jonathan,
The Eumig 938/940 are both stunning projectors and, as you say, the sound is superior to the Elmo's.

Thanks Paul,I've just read the review.I did a few searches for the S940 on here when considering it but your excellent review didn't show up.
And thanks Ronald,it's going to get it's unveiling at a Christmas party on Saturday. I've devised a way of getting it into the celebrations with a Christmas quiz. I'm going to show Derann's "Reflections" and see who can name the most British films shown in the clips!

I love the looks of both the 938 and 940. The 938 has two beautiful analog recording meters, which light up in the recording mode. Too bad Eumig did not elect these meters to be active in playback mode (as on the GS12000), because they are very impressive. The 940 has that great looking digital frame counter, and the LED panel. Both are stunning looking machines with outstanding performance. Eumig really got it right this time!
