It seems that with the end of Kodachrome process in Dec 2010, everyone with bulky stock of Super 8mm Kodachrome is now offering them very cheap at Ebay.

Yesterday and a week before 3 sound cartridge of Kodachrome super 8mm films were sold between $36 to $45 or around $14 each. Something that might not happen a year ago.

But most of the carts are from 1986 batch. So let's say that the original owner is a pro-film maker who has placed them in fridge since first time, what will be the result for these films now?

1. Will be just like a fresh film with true Kodachrome colors
2. There will be signed of wash out color
3. Totally wash out color, better to avoid

I was once told that Kodachrome can last 25 years if stored correctly. Not sure if thats true as Ive never found any 'old' kodachrome stored in the fridge from day one. Most old kodachrome I have bought have had a 'purpleish' look to it and the colours a bit lighter, which is because they have probably just been put in a cool part of the house and not in the fridge. I did once buy some kodachrome about 10 years old at the time and the seller told me they was stored in a coolbox, which here is just a plastic box with insulation around it to keep the contents cool inside as much as possible but is not a proper fridge. Well when developed the colours were pretty good but didnt look as good as 'fresh' kodachrome and did appear lighter.

If you buy Kodachrome from Ebay you take your chance as to what the final results will look like as you never really know where they have been stored.
