There's a video on YouTube showing a Chinon projector being demonstrated with a cartoon. It's being shown normally except if you look closely at the take up reel. CLEARLY it's going in reverse. How is this possible?! I know I'm not seeing things. Search under "CHINON 7000 SUPER EIGHT SOUND MOVIE PROJECTOR FILM" - the user is 'iraglauck'. Is it an optical illusion? I know I'm not crazy and the movie he's showing is definitely NOT being run backwards.

Here is the link:

I believe the main belt is twisted (making the 8 shape) resulting the take up reel runs in reserve.

But to play it as a normal projector, you have to spool the film (on take up reel) also in reverse way.

Pretty remarkable!

The other Chinons on YouTube have the two reels rotating in the same direction front and back: both clockwise from the control side when projecting forward.

All I ask is a wide screen and a projector to light her by...

A while back I had a Eumig 810-D on which the the take up arm came apart. Inside are several gears that move the spindle. So I put them back the way I thought they should go...popped the two parts of the arm back together.....and sure enough.....backwards spinning. I had put the gears in wrong.... but eventually got them in the right order and all was well. I doubt that was this machine's problem, but it can happen when non mechanically minded folks like me attempt to make repairs.

This picture show what I meant.

 -

Picture no. 1 is a normal projector like what I have now.

Picture no. 2, the possibility of the said projector resulting the take up reels runs in reverse.
