Hi well I picked up a very reasonable Bolex SM80 projector.

Eumig brushless motor with the drive discs.

Very pleased but as no instructions please can someone advise me . Should you change the speed at idle, Motor running but no drive or with everything going please.

I imagine one is better than the other.

Many Thanks Mark.

I believe the instructions say you should change the motor speed when the machine is stopped, but I've made fine adjustments when doing transfers and it was fine.

You just need to respect the momentum of the internal machinery and the flywheel and be gradual about it.

It's actually a Eumig so follow as for a Eumig. Projector plugged into mains and fan/motor running, then change speed control.
Do not change when whole mechanism is running.

As I said, when the machine is operating, with film tranport engaged and a picture on the screen, you can make fine adjustments as you would in telecine. It's one of the advantages of this design.

18 fps up to 20 in lets say 5 steps over 20-30 seconds, no problem.

18 to 24 in half a second is asking for trouble.
