I recently purcased a nice print of the 1925 classic version of The Lost World (same plot as the new version).

This print was black and white, although the original 35mm print was tinted, but that didn't bother me.

It came in one 600 ft and one 400 ft reels, and seller said that it might have been sold as 5 200 fts. The film also had signs stating reel 1, 2 etc. But they where not really the same all the way through, so I figure they might come from a 35mm or 16mm print that was made to pull the super8 version from.

One thing bothers me though. It seems to miss a last reel. It abrubtly ends with the dinasour loose in London (sorry if I spoiled anything) and the romantic subplot is discarded totally. But it does have a "The End" sign.

My question is this. Does anyone else have a print of this film or know of it's origon? Is there a last reel out there waiting for me to find it?

This could be one of our titles that were available from our old catalouge back in the 80's, I can't remember exactley how the film ends but looking at our old catalouge it states the film is a 6 reeler, sounds like you have 5 of them [Confused]

Michael,

It appears that you're missing the last 6 minutes. After the Brontosaurus escapes, he(?) goes on a rampage and falls into the river when Tower Bridge collapses under his weight. He then swims away. Then it's back to the romantic subplot. Sir John sees that Paula is actually in love with the reporter and graciously steps aside. The last shot is Prof. Challenger, standing by the bridge, watching his dinosaur and his reputation head out to sea.

Hi Michael,

If you really want to see the best version of the Lost World (1925)-I would recommend the 2001 Image Entertainment edition DVD, which is the most complete version I know of: coming in at 93 minutes. The "Lost World" is a lost film and no longer exists in its original form. The Image Entertainment edition is a reconstruction of the film based on the surviving (1925) filming script & has been prepared from a combination of eight surviving prints of held in private collections and world film archives.

I don't think such a complete print ever existed in 8mm. I think the 8mm print came in at about 60 minutes.
