i am experimenting with 8mm equipment and materials, with some success. now i would like to get into sound. i don't have a sound projector yet (just a cumbersome bolex "sonorizer" attachment which seems sticky and is really intended for use with the "M8" projector, which i don't have), but i do have a hard to find "sound striper" apparatus. it is a pretty simple machine and even came with two small reels of audio tape for 8mm. it is not as sophisticated as the sound stripers i've seen pictures of on the internet, which have multiple heavy wheels.
here is the web address of the auction i won:
http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=7520605097&rd=1&sspagename=STRK%3AMEWN%3AIT&rd=1
what i am wondering mostly is, where can i get the proper adhesive solution and how do i use it? i assume that the small cylander on the front of the machine is an adhesive applicator of some sort. it has a square opening where the tape crosses it. the cylander leads to a larger cylandrical compartment on the back of the machine, which is upright, not horizontal. at the bottom of the upright compartment there is a small "wick" which leads into the "applicator" on the front. if this is the glue compartment, it must be a very special type of glue if it can be consisently transfered via a (cotton?) wick. so...what is it?
also, while i am asking questions, where can i get an 8mm film splitter? i started to make my own, but i am not skilled enouph to acheive the neccessary precision. maybe there is some service or common precision machine at photolabs i can request? i have been developing the film on my own with some success, but not splitting.
thank you for your time.
