Topic: How was your year in Super 8 ?!

Hey folks, I thought that this would be a fun topic for the end of your year. How did your collection build or slow down this year? What is the prize jewel (that would make everybody drool), this year.
(Personally, I'm still envious of Kevin Faulkner finding a copy of Close Encounters, Scope ..... RRRRRRR!)
As for my collection, I added about TWENTY TITLES to my optical sound collection, and only one of them has slightly faded color (whew) that and I just added two more to finish the year in optical sound super 8 ... "2010" (Yeah, I know it's a scope print from Derrann too, but me and my optical fetish!) as well as a cult favorite of mine, "Bugsy Malone"!
That, and I added to my collection the "Crown Jewel" that I longed for, a mint condition Scope print of STAR WARS, a FIRST DAY PRINT when it was released by DERRANN! (Signed on that day by none other than David Prowse, Darth Vader! Giggle)
Oh, and assorted cartoons, crown jewel of that collection being a mint condition Standard 8mm print from the late 40's of "Tugboat Mickey", on ansco film stock, and not a hint of color fade at all after almost 60 years!!
So, come one, I know that your just dying to share your good fortune with all of us out here in "Forum Land". Lets here from you!!

The year was excellent. Some good chats on this forum, loads of 2nd-hand films, mostly cutdowns (thanks to Ebay, some of our members, dealers used lists and my 2 visits to the BFCC), a few new releases from CHC and Derann (Knick-knack, Kong trailer, Matrix extracts). I also got my paws on a superb Star Wars print. Finally found the perfect short-throw zoom lens for my two 16CLs. Welcomed a second GS1200 (brought back to life by Maestro Grassi) and discovered the joys of re-recording soundtracks.
Of course, I had to part with some of my machines, accessories and films to cover for the new arrivals but that's part of the game. One of my Eikis is now being pampered by a good friend and my Beaulieu 708 will soon find a new home. Still can't part with the 800 series Eumigs, though...
As I am no longer looking for heavy equipment (well, if I can get my hands on another swing away scope bracket...) , next year will probably be quieter and mostly aimed at looking for films.

This has been an exciting year for me as well... stumbling into 16mm collecting by accident, for one thing, I really only bought that Eiki SSL-0 to use as a motorized super-8 rewind but it was in such good condition (at a bargain price!), and then I came into some very cool 16mm films courtesy of Chris Drumma... one of which turned out to be in scope, leading me to obtain a scope lens... back to super-8, of course my 1600ft. mod, and adding on to my collection of slapstick comedy shorts (Lloyd, Keaton, L&H) plus two L&H features at great prices... some cartoon gems as well, including WB's Rabbit Seasoning and some Heckle & Jeckle in surprisingly good color as well... I've also ended up with quite a few projectors, some of which are dead parts units, others work great but have the potential for interesting modifications (how about a Bell & Howell Filmosonic 600 with an EFR lamp, for example ![[Big Grin]](biggrin.gif) )... Last but not least, I love my Da-Lite ceiling-mounted screen ![[Cool]](cool.gif)

Being new to the hobby, I can only say how my last six months was in Super 8. Pretty amazing, really, and quite the learning curve.
Started what is shaping up to be a very satisfying collection of sci-fi/horror features, the result of some shrewd bargain-hunting (with help from Forum members) and dumb luck on ebay. These include: The Vampire Bat (1932), White Zombie (1932), The Devil Bat (1940), Mighty Joe Young (1949), War of the Worlds (1953), Invasion of the Body Snatchers (1956), and The Beast from Haunted Cave (1959). Also picked up some feature-length releases of two Flash Gordon serials from the 1930s ("Rocketship" and "Mars Attacks the World"), as well as three Fleischer Superman cartoons and numerous WB cartoons.
Oh yes, in recent months I bought my first projectors: a CHINON SP-330MV (Thanks, Jan!) and an ELMO ST-800. All humming along nicely.
Plenty to wish for in 2006: features of KING KONG, THING FROM ANOTHER WORLD, and other classics of the genre; and, of course, an ELMO 1200 of some sort. Fingers crossed!

I discovered Super 8 this year so am still quite new. Am STILL waiting the delivery of an Elmo ST1200D Optical/Mag projector from e-bay, but I'm gradually coming to the realization that I may not get it. ![[Frown]](frown.gif)
Anyway, I got some really great features this year - "Wizard of Oz", "Notorious", and the beginning of my Elvis film collection with "Blue Hawaii", "Roustabout", "GI Blues", "Paradise Hawaiian Style", and a soon to be received copy of the "Elvis '68 Comeback Special".
My goals for 2006 are to finally get a good Elmo ST1200 projector, and to obtain the following films: "Meet Me In St Louis", "Somewhere In Time", and more Elvis! ![[Smile]](smile.gif)

NEW Toy Story, NEW Jungle Book, The Pickwick Papers, The Snowman, eight Laurel and Hardys, two Roger Rabbit cartoons, The Railway Children, cutdowns of Carrie, Grease and Airplane!, a couple of Little Rascals, four Lowell Thomas Remembers... My favorite, though, is getting a mint Castle Film edition of the 200' Bride of Frankenstein -- the first film I ever had when my Dad bought me an 8mm projector for Christmas when I was nine. Just like "A Christmas Story"!
