So much for Fuji honouring processing five years after the last production run of a filmstock (article in smallformat). Looks like its over to the cottage industry to supply single 8 from next year. For all my dislikes of the grainy 64t super 8 stock from kodak, least kodak gave the super 8 user a replacement filmstock when k40 was axed.

That's a shame... and rather peculiar in its timing, too, so soon after the demise of Kodachrome 40 film.

But all is not lost... other super-8 reversal stocks ARE available, one is not limited to Ektachrome 64T film by far, consider Cinevia by GK-Film or Fuji's own Velvia. Even the inherent drawbacks of the super-8 cartridge design can be combated with a high-precision metal pressure plate, also sold by GK-Film (and, I believe, Andec Filmtechnik in Germany).

Heck... at this point I can see someone repackaging super-8 film in single-8 cassettes and selling it in the near future! [Smile]

Retro (Japan) and GK-Film (Germany) are selling the Cinevia (=Fuji Velvia 50D slide-film "converted" to Single8) + Retro is selling the "Retro-X", a B&W-film in Single8. Hence you can still buy Single8-films even after Fuji stopped its production.
Nevertheless both Cinevia and Retro-X are only 12m (or 40ft.) in the 15m (or 50ft.)-cartridge don't work in all cameras.

Although I`ve not got a super 8 camera at the moment( lent and never seen again, Oh well) I`m going to get another to start using the fuji super to support that venture, not least because it sounds nice than the K64 job but this chap really needs supporting so going to order a couple this week.Not bad for about 25 E`s
If anyone is thinking about it we should all try to get at least a couple t see what its like and give the support, I hear it looks superb when in the 9,5 .

Yes, the Cinevia/Velvia50D is acetate-based.

Since the ferrovia/3m-films (double8 & super8) are out of production, the Fujichrome R25N/RT200N and the material used by Andec for their positive-prints from your Super8-negative-films are the only polyester-based films that are currently available.

There seem to be quite a few threads now under differing headings, discussing the new film replacements. As stated elsewhere, I too, am trying out the new 50 ASA from GK, together with their new pressure plate.

Here's hoping this combination will be 'all things to all men', or at least, to those of us who shoot our own cine as well as purchasing features etc.

I'm quite excited by the idea of this new product, - just hope it's not all wishful thinking. Looks like Single 8 will shortly be a thing of the past too!!

Even when the Single8-Fujichrome is gone, there'll still be the RetroX-b&w-reversal and the Cinevia-colour-reversal films in Single8. Not to mention that single8film.com announced "Reloadable Single-8 Cartridges in 25, 50, 100, 200 and 400 ASA. Coming Summer 2006."
Looks like Single8 will be around as long as Super8...

Well, if that's the case, we shouldn't really have any worries. - As long as we're suitably armed with a range of cameras, we should be able to continue shooting to our heart's content. Excellent!
