hi there, how about a derek simmonds day in memory of this great man.lets face it but for this brillant man super8mm would have died.
maybe derann could hold it (ie one of their open days);and call it
a derek simmonds day.that of course would be up to his family and his company.
if adrian should read this post its only a idea and i hope you dont
take offence at it.
its up to dereks wife anne and the family circle.
keep releaseing super8mm adrian.best wishes.andy.
p.s i wonder what other members think of my idea?.

Hi Andrew,

What a nice suggestion - I thank you very much indeed for your kind comments regarding Dad.
And don't worry, I do not take any kind of offence at such a comment.

I do not mind people talking about Dad - (we do it all the time at the shop)
the things he did, the films he released, his great sense of humour etc,
and just because he is no longer here in person,
I would like to think that his spirit and his love of 8mm and the joy of showing movies remains.

I think that it is nice that people remember my Father with such fondness. I am sure that he would be very proud.

I know that many people didn't expect us to release any more 8mm features, cutdowns or shorts after 2002
( - some even predicting when the shop would close for good !! - )

but we continue to release new material on 8mm, .. and will continue to do so!

Your post fills me with a great sense of pride. Thank you

Kind regards

Adrian

youre welcome adrian.youre father wrote tothe movie maker mag.many times and i was looking thru them, thats what give me the idea.youre dad was right in everything he said;ie movie maker shouldnt support video,he stated that would kill off the maginzine.
Did you father edit that outstanding two reeler from pearl harbour himself.
my view is other people have been knighted for less.
anyway keep releaseing super8 titles and thru forums like this we the collector will give you are support adrian.god bless you and family circle.andy.

hi there adrian,i never knew your father but i did speak to him on the phone a couple of times.
that was when he done the deal with u/a with the old warner bros.classics.
i to thought there was no market for them at that time and i told your dad that.dereks reply was simple-trust me.
your dad knew what most people wanted;thats what give me the idea for a DEREK SIMMONDS DAY.thats to your dad super8 is still alive.andy.

This is a great idea however,

For me, every super 8mm gathering or convention already is Derek Simmonds day. In fact Simply simmonds, i think everyone agrees that Derek is the 8mm home movie Godfather and Adrian and the gang, Ged and the boys, are carrying on in a way Derek will be giving the thumbs up big time,
So next time your at any convention just call it DS day. [Wink]

you know tom,i never thought like that,i would have to say that you made some very good points.
however i still think that derann could have a DEREK SIMMONDS DAY
but not the conventions they already put together.
i am thinking along the lines of dereks birthday;the day he got married, something like that.andy.
