I have a "rare" 1965 kinescope that I need some information on. I have no idea who the distributor of this film was. It is titled "A Salute To Stan Laurel" and aired one time on television in November of 1965 and hosted by Dick Van Dyke. This title is not available on video and I think it's quite rare. I was reading about it on the IMDB. I do know that Dick Van Dyke was good friend's with Stan Laurel and delivered Mr. Laurel's eulogy in 1965 when he passed away. This kinescope is a one hour sound CBS television special that aired one time on the network and never was repeated. It has not been seen in over 40 year's unless someone has a kinescope of the video taped show.
Anyway, I wondered if there would be interest in this kinescope? It is on one 1,200 foot Elmo reel. I think the print must have come on three 20 minute reels. I have no idea who released this "rare" film. I have no way of projecting it because my projector's don't have this large of reel capacity. I would like to see someone enjoy this film. I have no idea about it's value. As of yet I have not put this print on the rewinds. But it appears to be pristine/mint. Any information as far as distributor would be appreciated as well as value.

Years ago, I'm pretty sure that RED FOX released this on 2X400' Super 8 Sound reels, and I had a chance to buy it, though it was not a true honor to the man at all; Even then, golden-age TV was not above diluting the public with a hodgepodge mixture of unfunny moments - Hardy was basically ignored - That's about all I know on this one - Stay in touch - Shorty

Hi Shorty:
I was told by a good friend (that is definately in the know) that this is an illegal copy. I seem to remember as well that Red Fox was offering this film. How does one go about selling this print if it is an illegal copy? How did Red Fox Films even sell this to begin with if it is illegal? I would like to get something out of this print since I am doing very little now with Super Eight and more with 16mm. This film was given to me by a good friend who was ill and consequently passed away three moths later. I would like to use the money from this film to buy a 16mm Laurel and Hardy Blackhawk print.

If I may clarify, I think that you folks might be talking about, the "This is Your Life" with laurel and hardy from the 1950's, as Oliver hardy passed away in the late 50's and so he couldn't have possibly been on the "Salute to Stan laurel" show, which is quite rare. The "This is Your Life" was offered on super 8.

Tom, if I were you, I would first find out if your show is out there for "public domain" and if it is open for that, make a copy on video, then market it yourself, as there are a lot of Satn fans out there who would love to see it!

Hi Osi:
No it's not a Ralph Edwards "This Is Your Life" that I have seen quite a few times. This is the 1965 "Stan Laurel" Tribute Special that CBS aired in November of 1965. I also found out it has a valid copyright on it currently by CBS. I don't think my friend would mind me getting a 16mm L&H movie in place of this one in Super Eight. I just don't want to get hauled down to the "Hoosegow" for selling this. Any interest in this? Anyone? Can you list
this on e-bay or? Probably not. Look's like I am sitting on a kinescope here that I can't project OR sell. Ideas?

P.S. Check out the Internet Movie Database in regards to this title. Even Bob Newhart is in this as well as Lucy and Phil Silvers and many others. Yes, this look's rare. It is not available on any video format.

Why not just keep it? - It's very rare, and a collector piece, so it might be better held in your care since the status is unknown - I figure if CBS relinquished the rights, unless they still own the title - No idea, Tom - Shorty

I was told by a friend who has a connection with CBS that it would be ok to sell it. It's a neglected title and I want to buy another Laurel and Hardy feature film. I don't think my late friend would mind me selling it for another L&H film. Yes, it is rare. Maybe I can get $100.00 for it. It appears to be mint in condition on one Elmo 1,200 reel in magnetic sound. Yes, it is rare and unseen for many years. If no one is interested in it on here it will go up on e-bay today.
