After reading Osi's great post on scope, it got me wondering if there are spouses out there who actually watch films with members. My wife does NOT enjoy my passion for projecting movies [Frown]

Am I the only soul in this situation, or arew there others out there like me who must enjoy films solo? [Roll Eyes]

It's a marital/political kinda thing...

I bet there are some couples out there where both are really into it, but not really in most cases.

I've always made sure to have some films around my wife likes, it gives her a reason to join in.

The thing is that hobbies aren't usually supposed to be the simplest way of doing things.

You can spend an hour in a rowboat and come home without a fish, or you can go to the supermarket and be out in ten minutes with a lovely fish. Which is the easy way to get a fish, which is the more satisfying and challenging?

You can spend $25,000 restoring an old car which is neither completely reliable or safe by modern standards, or for the same money you can get a brand new one. One is an achievement, the other is simply a transportation appliance.

Hobbies aren't usually the most practical things either. What would you think if someone told you their hobby was tax preparation, or waxing floors?

The thing about shoving a DVD into a machine is it easily and repeatably does what it is intended to do: allow the user to watch TV. That is NOT a hobby!

Frank,my Mrs hates super 8 too!!
Luckily I have a bunch of friends who enjoy movies on the big screen,so its a good excuse to spark up the projector when they come round.

At least I can fall back on the grandkids. They'll watch almost anything. Part of the appeal is the shadows they can put on the screen. But they also like the films, especially Disney(who doesn't?) and Laurel and Hardy. So I indulge their tastes, then I watch a good feature. [Smile]

That's another aspect of it:

I've heard that there is a real gender bias where L&H goes, and my household seems to be with the trend. My wife can't stand 'em, but my son (soon 5 years old) and I are pretty excited when the latest Blackhawk arrives.

Lately when we are out and about my son has often pointed roadside and said "That's the house there: right on top of the stoop!"

Anybody out there have a Laurel & Hardy friendly wife/girlfriend/mom/daughter/sister?

After 28yrs of married life my wife has absolutely no interest in films, would rather blob in front of the TV after a hard days work. I was at one stage a few years ago accused of being anti-social, "always out there playing with films" I was told, [Roll Eyes]

to fix this I became "Mr Sociable" [Smile]

watching the dreaded TV [Eek!]

with the rest of them, only this time I wanted to watch my programmes, [Big Grin]

strange things started to happen eg, my son started to hide the remote from me, in the end I returned to playing with films, [Wink]

everyone was happy, and they never again accused me of being anti-social.

My wife loves watching films on Super 8 and 16mm as much as I do, and because she has small hands she is very useful when it comes to replacing belts and such. However, thanks to all the secondhand features that have been on ebay and the odd dealers lists to tempt us, we have never had a repeat showing of a feature in years so the shows are always fresh and exciting. (I do re screen my Laurel and Hardy films every so often though [Wink]

My wife and kids (and now Grandson - well he is only one) love watching films - both Super 8 and 16mm. L&H and Little Rascals (Our Gang) have been the big hit as it was with me growing up in the late 60s. Once every year we used to setup our outdoor screen (10'x10') and invite all to a night at the movies. It had been a big hit for over 15 years. I miss 8mm as I have been out of it for 2 years because I am working in the Caribbean (a tough assignment) but on my return home I will be back at it again. -Henry-

Hi Steve ... WOW that was a fast response! Yes, it as been almost two years and all of a sudden I have 8mm fever. I'm on a 5 sq. mile island and 1,600 mile away from my collection and won't be home until December! But it kind of reminds me of that feeling I had ... long ago ... waiting by the mailbox for that Blackhawk order to arrive...
