Hi all,

Ebay.com has just changed their format in categorizing film. I don't know now where 8mm is placed. Everything does look mess. How can I find 8mm in 5000 something more items??? [Eek!]

cheers,

Hi Winbert. Go to "Catagories" and select "DVD and Movies". Then, look at the list and select "Film". Then, look at "Sub Format" and click on "8MM" and there you go. Having done this once save your search in "My Favorite Searches" and then you can find it easily next time. .
Hope this helps. It is very confusing since Ebay have changed their format.

KEith,

Thanks for that, but I don't know if you have seen the latest one. But what I see now, the category to get the film section is:

DVD and Movies > Movies, Musicals & TV Shows > Film

And from "Film" the options are:

> Genre
> Rating
> Condition
> Price
> Buying Options
> Location
> Seller

so we don't have (longer) > sub format.

If we stop searching at "Film" then we are facing something like 5000 items!!!

Why Ebay did this??

It is E-Bay.com. It is the same on E-Bay.co.uk also.
From the home page select -
"Catagories" on the left hand side.
Then select "DVD and Movies"
From within that catagory select FILM - it is at the top of the second column
From "Movies:Other Format" select FILM again.
From the "Sub Format" select "8mm"
This narrows your choice to about 400.
Possibly the easiest way is to access an old purchase that you have made and see what catagory it is now in, and then save that to "My Favorite Searches".
Hope it works for you. Regards Keith

No Keith,

This is what appears now http://shop.ebay.com/DVDs-Movies

And you can see if you go click on either categories available there then you will see that the "sub format" is no longer there (or I have different viewer???)

And my old purchases now only show: DVDs & Movies > Film

[Confused]

This is a different screen to mine but if you look under "All Categories" -
click "DVD's Movies" type in "8MM" then click search.
You get Categories "Movies, Musicals, TV"
Click on this category then scroll down.
I have a list of approx 450 films.
Regards Keith

I tried the new format on my computer at work and found it was impossible to look for 8mm movies. After I got really sick of fighting it I found a link to click to opt out.

After that, it worked like it used to.

Yes, I too opted out of the dreadful new scheme. Can't understand what possessed them to change. Absolutely diabolical. [Mad]

Let's hope they will decide to abolish the new format altogether - quite unusable to anybody with an ounce of logical thinking!

With apologies to anyone on the Forum who likes it! [Embarrassed]

Winbert

Try this link if you want 8mm only.

David, will we see you at the BFCC?

Hmmm, slight problem with forum accepting URL requests, will try again later......

Hi Craig,

Yes, at long last! All things being equal, I hope to be there, along with the rest of the Sussex contingent.

Really looking forward to it!

Using search engine with "8mm" key word can cause missing some auctions, because it is quite possible some sellers in their description didn't write "8mm" but instead "super 8" or "super8" or "s-8mm" or even no any "8mm" word!! And this can be one of our most wanted film that may have been missed!

Using category is the save way.

There's no way to know if this link will work for you, but this gives me Super 8 as a film sub-category:

Hi Winbert, Sorry my suggestion is not "perfect". Just trying to help. The method I suggested works for ok for me but then again we are all individuals and some are more easily pleased than others. I'm sure that each member will find their own solution to the problem, after all, we are a very resourceful bunch.
In view of the fewer number of listings for "film" in general, I don't think any suggestions we make will carry any weight with E-Bay. Pity really because, in this day and age, I don't think that any company or seller can afford to lose sales of any description. That's what happens when you are a collector in a diminishing market. Haven't seen many "Rembrandt paintings" on E-Bay lately. [Smile] I wonder what "catagory" they are under?
Best regards Keith
