Another topic.

As we are blessed with so many good cartoon shorts that have been released over the years with the likes of Disney. What is everyones favorite one in entertainment value and quality i.e picture quality, color and sound and definition.

Or better still ranking from 1 to 10 in all fields

One i can recall is Tom & Jerry in Saturday Evening Puss which is has fantastic entertainment value!

I can think of three I have that I'd put up there on all fronts, print quality and entertainment value. One is Lonesome Ghosts...Derann.....then the scope Bearly Asleep. And Duck Amuck.

This is a very informal survey, but I did a show for a bunch of children aged roughly four through ten about a year ago

Here's the lineup:

Mickey's Fire Brigade
The many adventures of Winnie the Pooh
Buccaneer Bunny
Madagascar Penguins in a Christmas Caper
Gone Nutty
For The Birds

Best Crowd Reaction: Buccaneer Bunny

If cartoons work for us because of the kids we still are deep down inside, then Bugs Bunny is the champ!

To me, the best Bugs Bunny of all is either Buccaneer Bunny or that one (unfortunately I've never found a print of this) where the surly construction foreman builds a sky scraper on top of his home ("of course you realize...this means war!") and at the end Bugs sets off this very complicated sequence ending in an immense steel tank falling on the bad guy ("I'm a feelin'...mighhhhty lowwww")

BTW: My "Buccaneer Bunny" is a Piccolo and is a great print by any measure.

Bottom of the cartoon barrel: Casper the Friendly Ghost: no Dyneemite, no falls off 10,000 foot cliffs, no idiotic ducks demanding to be shot…what’s the point??

This is a very hard question to answer, as there are (for me) so many different catergories for cartoons. For instance :

Best fantasy cartoon : The Pincusion Man (Ub Iwerks)(Baloonland)
Best cartoon with message : Goodwill To Men. (M.G.M.)(scope)
Best Holiday cartoon : Little Match Girl (Columbia)
Best Horror cartoon : The Tell Tale Heart (U.P.A.)
Funniest Cartoon : Gruesome Twosome (Warners)

Last category is a REEL toss-up!

Note: I am limiting it to cartoons that are on Super 8mm.

There are so many in Super8 [Roll Eyes]

Tom and Jerry cartoons are timeless "Cat Napping" 1951 is just one, the marching ants are great.

Derann, Silly Symphony "Woodland Cafe" 1937, stunning.

My favourite cartoon character would be Sylvester and Tweety in "Tweety and the Beenstalk"

One old musical, Castle films Woody Woodpecker in "The Barber Of Seville 1944" just brilliant.

I love all the classics; Tom & Jerry and of course all the Disneys, but I have to say that two of my most watched and most requested cartoon shorts are "For The Birds" and "Scrat The Squirrel" both Derann releases and both magnificent, in fact Scrat has become a bit of a hero of mine... [Big Grin]

Now What about all the great hanna barbara cartoons that we have on Super 8. I am very found of Top Cat, Flintstones, The Jetsons, and the Techno releases of Scooby Doo, Hong Kong Phooey.

Well that what i kind of grew up on.

Also Walton released some shorts.

My Fav is Classics release of "Knick Knack" This is a superb short with superb image quality and mine now has a stereo sound track.
Highly entertaining.
Another is Derann's "Boundin". Once again the quality is outstanding.

For older Cartoons.....Give me T&J anytime [Smile]

My Favourite is T&J's "Mouse In Manhatten", although 95% of it is just Jerry on his own as Tom only appears at the beginning and the end.

Excellent soundtrack. Nice Derann print. [Smile]
