Hi Martin-- I've never used them but I hear they are real cumbersome and they never caught on for that reason-- they were considered to be kind of a joke and not too easy on film. A clever trick, though. Somebody spent a long time thinking about how to do it.

Here it is, shown mounted on a Eumig machine spool arm;
Apparently you use two; the first is loaded as a take up spool, and then transferred to use as a feed spool with the second then used for take up. Because the film feeds out from the middle of the spool, you never need to rewind. (Am I wrong, but dont some pro film tables work this way?)
