Just out of curiosity - I noticed while I was cleaning my GS-800 that that it had all the same covers and compartments as the M-O, just no exciter lamp. Has anyone ever attempted to install the necessary hardware for optical sound on a Mag only GS-800? It looks like all you would need is the lamp socket - and the knowledge of the main board to know how to connect it to power, A button to select optical sound - and a hole already their next to the silent button. There is even an exciter lamp window on the outside. I have no intention of trying this but has anyone ever tried it before?

If it's anything like the ST 600M (ST800M) the power supply and the Optical switch position and components on the amplifier board are all there, but the Exciter Lamp, Lamp holder and wiring, Sound Optics and Cell are not fitted at all. See my earlier thread on my Stereo conversion of a ST600 M, which employs some of the "Optical" circuitry to provide the extra Stereo switching. http://8mmforum.film-tech.com/cgi-bin/ubb/ultimatebb.cgi?ubb=get_topic;f=1;t=003960# 000000 Martin

Ah - solar cell placement, I never thought of that. The solar cell isn't there already. Looking at the area where you would have to put a solar cell, there doesn't look like there is much room. I figured that if it were possible - someone with the technical ability would've done it.
