I was just looking through Marketing Films International's 1980/81 catalogue, all the usual titles were present in picture form and descriptions, then I looked on the inside cover where they explain what sizes of films were available, then they go on to say all titles except Barracuda & BREAKOUT are Paramount releases, BREAKOUT ? This is the 1975 Charles Bronson film, there's no other mention of this film anywhere else in the brochure, does anyone know if this was ever released by Marketing, if it did what size was it released in, it might have been released in Germany from Marketing, but was it ever released by Marketing Film International via New York.

Barry,

In my Marketing catalog the sentence reads "All films except Barracuda and Breakthrough..." Breakthrough(!) isn't mentioned again in the catalog.
Piccolo Films released a 400' version of "Breakout" entitled "Der Mann ohne Nerven". That one is probably the same cut as Columbia's digest.

Dear Doug,

Yes my mistake, I've been at the keyboard for too long recently, words are melding into each other, still has anyone heard of this film Breakthrough?

Hi-Barry,

BREAKTHROUGH was a sequel of sorts to CROSS OF IRON which was a mega hit in Germany,it starred RICHARD BURTON & ROD STEIGER and was only ever released on video here in the UK.

It is so that Breakthrough is the sequel to Cross of Iron or Steiner "Das eiserne Kreuz" (in German) , then there was Steiner II released by Marketing. It was only available on 3 x 400 as far as I am concerned.

Breakthrough, Das Eiserne Kreuz (2. Teil)

As Winbert said, only available as a three parter.

So I gather the 8mm prints were only in the German language, as Richard Burton was the lead, I would have thought an English track would have been available.

Hi,

I can't find your quote or any mentioning of BreakOut/BreakThrough/BreakWhatever in the catalogue - maybe some pages are missing in ths scan?
http://www.super-8-hobby.de/k-mfinter80.htm

However all films in the catalogue have been available with at least an English soundtrack (to be sold in the USA and Canada). You'll also notice that most of them have also been available in Canada with a French or Mexico with a Spanish soundtrack.

Jörg,

The page in question is the inside front cover which is not on that site. I'll scan it a bit later.
