My ST-1200hd Mag/Opt has a problem. The rubber rim around the shutter wheel is deteriorating. Are the rubber rims available or do I replace the shutter wheel? I have a couple of parts machines: ST-180E and SC-18. Are these shutters interchangable with the ST-1200?

Dan,
Very common problem. It happened to my St-1200 as well.
You can have the rubber stripped off entirely (which is what I had done) and the machine will run fine without it. The repair shop said it might get noisier, but I can't say it sounds significantly different to me (and I tend to be picky about such things.) I don't know if the parts from the other models will fit.

Simply remove it as Claus has suggested. Its a pretty disgusting job to do. I have used a scalpel blade in the past but try not to mark the metal underneath. Once its all off run the machine and hold some fine abrasive paper onto the edge to clean it and make sure the last knockings are off. After this give the two rubber rollers a clean with some soapy water or isopropyl alcohol to get any mess off them.
You will find that the machine will purr nicely after this and you shouldn't notice the very slight drop in speed.
Best of luck, Kev.
