Hi Tom,
Today I received an identical machine as yours, in the post. It was bought on ebay & the seller didn't disclose that the front spindle had popped out.
I have fixed it now & yours is probably needing the same fix.
Drive to the front spindle is by a series of plastic gears that are easily accessible by removing the front arm cover.
The last plastic gear, just behind the spindle lock, was cracked as was the base collar & it had allowed the whole spindle assembly to come off its axle.
Using Super glue, I was able to repair the cracked plastic drive gear and also reglue the spindle back in place on the axle collar. It is now glued back onto where it originally was, on a plastic collar/bush, which locates it centrally on the axle. It must spin freely in forward project & also drive in the oposite direction when rewinding.
Once the front arm cover is back on there is no sign of the repair & it now works well again.
I suggest that if you havent already fixed yours, then give it a try repairing as described above.
Good luck & let us know if you win.
