Hi
I have just bought a Eumig Mark S 706 sound projector.I would like to know if this is a good machine to use and if spare parts are available for it. It runs OK on 24fps but not at 18fps. I would be grateful for any advice or suggestions.

Hi Paul
You don't say how you intend using the projector or what what films you are going to watch. Silent or sound, Super 8 or Regular 8.

The Eumig 700 series of projectors nearly always suffers from disintegrated plastic motor pivot bushes & poor friction at the drive dics due to weak tension springs. This results in speed problems or they wont drive all speeds & may stall & then burn film.
Don't waste any money on that Eumig as its too old to be reliable.
Look at the later 800 series Eumigs like the 810. These are usually in better shape & do a good job if properly serviced.

Many thanks for your reply and advice.I am hoping to use the projector to view some super 8 movies I made a long time back, mostly silent but one or two sound.
After a lot of research and asking around I found a camera technician who is able to service the projector based on what I described was going wrong, but this is not a definite. As a back-up, I have also located an overseas specialist who still service most Eumig models of projector at their factory.

Hi Paul,
Those movies would be very valuable to you so it would be a shame to see them damaged. Thats what you will risk doing if you use that 700 series Eumig for home movie watching.
They are a most unforgiving projector & a single mis-threading incident usually results in film damage. Thats why I suggested you use a later model projector. By the time you have invested more money into that old projector, you could have bought a later model machine that is kinder to films & easier to use.
Surely you aren't serious about sending it overseas for service? You know how heavy it is so it would be a very expensive option.
A quality dual 8mm silent projector would be the safest to use. Something like a Sankyo 1000h or Elmo K100sm or Eumig 610d would be a good choice. These are all Sprocketless projectors & are much easier on the films.
