Hi. I need a quick and easy way to splice films togeather. For example to add a lead for a single screening. I was watching a video on vimeo http://vimeo.com/4738864 and at 3:04 into the video there is a very nice splicer that uses tape. I've been searching for it on ebay but can only find the splicer with glue (or cement as he says in the video). Do you know where i can find one?

Hello! You can search on EBAY for CIR splicer or, especially in Italy, for FERRANIA splicer.

Here is an example...

Good Luck!

Flavio

PS: Please, note I'm not the seller of the above splicer...

Thanks. Do you know if I can use a normal scotch tape in the ferrania splicer? I know it's better to use a specific tape, i'm just wondering if it has special holes or if the splicer cuts the holes. If you don't know then I'll create an account and ask the seller.

If it's Super 8 youre talking about... see my post on this thread http://8mmforum.film-tech.com/cgi-bin/ubb/ultimatebb.cgi?ubb=get_topic;f=1;t=005508# 000006

(Fairly sure I've found the second lot of instructions, but I'd have to check).

Eysteinn,

To be honest, in emergency, I used scotch tape to splice film and it works well.

Since the scotch tape does not have specific holes for super 8mm then I don't cover the holes with the tape. I place it just before the holes.

The problem is to get the precise distance between holes in which I used another uncut film to measure it. Need some exercise though.

Thanks for the help.

Another item I'm looking for. Some easy way to wind film from one spool to another. Like this except I don't need the monitor.

The CIR splicer you saw punches the holes when it cuts. Scotch tape would work in a pinch.

I bought a Ferrania splicer, but it was regular 8. That's ok, it works and I often get Regular 8 film, but I was mostly looking for Super 8.

So I found one for Super 8 and it looks identical to the one in the video http://cgi.ebay.com/CIRO-Super-8mm-Tape-Splicer-BeaulieuNizoCanon-2r-Tape-/260677497652?pt=Film_Cameras&hash=item3cb196f334
