Hi,

I have seen several anamorphic lenses suggested for 8mm filming as opposed to projection, Kowa's for example, but most have a severely restricted barrel diameter, usually somewhere between 40-50mm. However, there are 35mm projection anamorphic lenses around which have a much wider barrel diameter, such as might easily fit over many 8mm camera lenses, even if a special attachment were required.

So I was just wondering why no-one (?) has suggested using the larger 35mm anamorphic lenses for 8mm film-making? There may be very good reasons for this of course because I understand the *length* of these lenses can cause vignetting, the recommended Kowa lenses are quite short.

I would like to ask what scope lens do you consider to be the better choice for super 8 projection. I have a 35mm Isco 2x, and a Kowa 8z, but I have read about the Rectimascop in this forum. I have seen the Isco 2x, used in BFCC projections. Thanks.

Hi Ric,

most anamorphic lenses for projecting 35mm-film have a minimum distance* of 10 metres or more and are very heavy. This normally isn't what you want in an amateur set-up. And the anamorphic lenses / attachments for 35mm cine-cameras still cost a fortune - even heavily used Lomos are sold for at least 300 EUR on the bay.
When you've got tooooooo much money, the best anamorphics for your camera might be some "Hawk"-lenses (plus an adapter Arri -> C-mount): http://www.vantagefilm.com/
