I am new to this forum. Recently, I was bitten by the 8mm bug. I bought a projector, a developing tank and a Canon 814XL electronic to start off my quest in film making. I received my 814XL electronic yesterday. When I inserted the batteries, turned on the camera by setting it to 'R' mode. I pressed the shutter button, everything fired up. The motor was moving the flickering shutter can be seen at the film gate. When I released the shutter trigger, the camera keeps running. I thought it was normal, but after reading the manual, it was not. I tried the single frame mode and when I press the trigger, the camera keeps running. It runs for 10 to 15 frames before stopping. Sometimes it can stop in 1 frame. Erratic behavior. I guess there is something wrong with the trigger mechanism. Is it a common problem? Fixable at the user level? Thanks in advance.

I'm afraid, this is a common problem. Have you tried yet to operate the camera via the remote switch? This might be possible. A site giving instructions how to disassemble a Canon 814, which is similar to the 814XL: Canon repair Good luck!

That is sad to hear that. I did try to use the remote switch. I was not able to make it work either. After reading the site, it seems to be some electric trigger, I wonder if that is replaceable?
