Hi Gang, I was lucky enough growing up to have a dad and older brothers who were film buffs and we always had 8mm projectors and cameras around filming family vacations and fun. My brother got way into it and made dozens of short and feature length original and parody films and animation. He even built a machine to put a sound strip on standard 8mm film after it was processed so he could dub sound on to it. When video tape came along he went to that format and most of his old films haven't been watched for years.

His dream projector was the Eumig dual 8 with sound. He never was able to get one but had friends that had them and they used them for film festival get togethers(fond memories of those BTW).

Anyway, to get to the point, I just bought a Eumig 810d in good working order except for a few little things.

1. The supply reel spindle is broken off. Are these available anywhere? I think I could replace it if I can find the part.

2. The speed control won't go all the way up to the 24fps setting. It only goes about 3/4 of the way up, with the PJ plugged in and idling of course. I took the back off and noticed that the 2 motor hold down screws where still threaded about halfway into the housing, not tight but I removed them all the way anyway.

Should the control go all the way to the top to 24? Why doesn't it? Can it be set on speeds in between for transfer to video?

I have some old films and I ran a 50 footer through just for fun by holding the reel on a stick. The projector ran wonderfully but I sure missed the rewind feature that comes with having the front spindle. The film was standard8 silent so I didn't get to check out the sound but I get a slight hum when I turn it up so I think all is well there. The projector has the super8 gates and sprockets and even came with the original manual and a few spare bulbs, plus the original box. I'd like to find the connectors for the audio out and an original 600ft take up reel.

If any of you have any suggestions to get this machine back to running order I would sure appreciate it. My plan is to send it to my brother so he can transfer all his old standard and super8 classics to DVD before they deteriorate any further. I'd love to see those old films again.

The front spindle and the speed control are my main concerns. The rest of the projector seems to run fine and image looked great on my screen.( I run big CRT projectors in my garage home theater myself)

Hi, Grant.
Having been sold in a 60 HZ mains cycle Country, your projector's motor was adjusted to run at that frequency; in order to achieve this, the speed change lever movement had/has to be limited to the height you see, otherwise your projector will run faster than desired.
So you shouldn't worry about that.

As for the spindle I'm sorry but I can't help, except these machines are not rare and sometimes you can find one at garage sales or on ebay which you may want to use as a spares donor. Any Series 800 model should do, although for a perfect fixing, you'll need a double gauge machine which features a double size spindle, according to the gauge used.

So I can assume that where the speed adjuster stops 3/4 of the way up is 24fps. Good to know.
