I just took delivery of the 400' digest version of "The Wizard of Oz.". Unfortunately it was very red and smelled of vinegar. I know what VS is so immediately moved it away from other film material. The seller was perfectly willing to allow a return for a full refund so I'm disappointed but its all good.

My question is how frequently do you find this happens? Do you tend to stay away from sellers who clearly don't deal in film with any sort of regularity? Many of these are offered for sale by sellers who deal primarily in many other types of items like cloths, jewelry etc...

The vinegar part of it is quite surprising. Unfortunately for us collectors, many super prints were made on what we now know is "quick fade eastman, before the advent of Eastman LPP, which doesn't fade) ...

But the vinegar syndrome our getting is a surprise. It must be an acetate print as I hear that polyester film stock doesn't get vinegar syndrome, but I believe that acetate can.

The vinegar surprised me to. The print had a very strong vinegar odor.
