Hi, new to this forum and pretty much a film novice. I run a transfer business and had to get a projector for the occasional super 8 and 8mm. I got this Bell and Howell dual format projector. Bought sight unseen. First off I noticed the auto threading tire was melted off the capstan, not problem, I'll just manually thread the tape, order the tire, no biggie. Next I try and focus with the knob identified as "focus" in the manual. Zero, nothing happens, makes it unusable. Fuzzy outlines etc. My question, how do you access the inner lens to free this up? Or is it even possible? is there another cause. Thanks. Craig

Hi. nice to meet ya! No, I tried spinning the actual lens at the base but no go. I didn't want to be too aggressive in case it "doesn't turn". hold on! I went and tried again just now and gave it a little more torque. Came out in my hand. Was gummy from melted autoload tire. [Smile]

now what?

I believe this projector has only a fixed single speed. If you are considering video transfer you will probably need a projector with variable speed.

Thanks for your replies. I did get the focus to work. I think you may be right. A variable speed is likely my best friend for transfer as I need to reduce the flicker. Right now if looks like the Zappruder film of Kennedy! Do you think a Eumig Mark 8 will be good enough for my purposes? Thanks again. [Smile]
